IMPORTANT: If you're upgrading, please uninstall first.

What is this?

Meteor Desktop is an application that is meant to be used in conjuction with the PalmOS application called Meteor. If you don't know about Meteor, you can learn more by reading this web site : http://meteor13.tripod.com. This application allows Meteor users to access, from their desktop computer, the memos they have created on their handheld. Meteor Desktop is compatible with all versions of Meteor 1.x.

Installation

Meteor Desktop can be downloaded as a ZIP file. Inside of this archive is a MSI file, which is the installer of Meteor Desktop. It requires that you have Windows Installer present on your system. If the installation does not begin when you double-click the file, it's probably because Windows Installer is not on your system. You can download Windows Installer from the Microsoft site; here are some links to the right pages. The file to download is the ".exe" file at the bottom of the page.

Windows Installer 2.0 for Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows Me

Windows Installer 2.0 for Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000

The current status

For now, this application only allows you to read the memos. It means that you cannot create memos from your computer, you can only view them.

What's backed up?

This application will directly read the Meteor database that is backed up every time you perform a HotSync operation. It's important to know that a backup is performed everytime you do a HotSync, no matter if Meteor Desktop is installed or not. If you installed Meteor Desktop and the application cannot find the database, it's probably a sign that your database is not backed up correctly. Check your HotSync log in this case. The memos that this application displays are the memos that are currently backed up on your computer. So using Meteor Desktop is also a way to verify that the backup has been successfully done.
